Startng the work of the Syrian-Omani commitee: to develop economic cooperaton between the two
countries
Oman confrms, during the meetngs of the Syrian-Omani joint governmental commitee, its readiness to
develop economic, investment and commercial cooperaton with Syria.
Today, Wednesday, the meetngs of the Syrian-Omani joint governmental commitee began with a
meetng with the Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Muhammad Samer Al-Khalil, and the
Omani Minister of Economy, Muhammad bin Saeed Al-Saqri, as well as with a meetng with the Omani
Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment Promoton Qais Al-Youssef.
Yesterday, the opening of the Syrian-Omani Businessmen Forum witnessed the wide partcipaton of
businessmen of the two countries, in the Omani capital, Muscat.
The Omani Minister of Economy afrmed the Sultanate’s readiness to work to overcome difcultes, to
develop economic, investment and trade cooperatهon between his country and Syria.
On Tuesday, Muscat hosted the Omani-Syrian Business Forum, which was organized by the Oman
Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The forum aims to develop economic relatons and enhance trade
and investment exchange between the Sultanate of Oman and Syria.
In his speech, the Omani Minister of Economy stated that the forum will provide many economic
opportunites between the Sultanate of Oman and Syria, achieve the desired cooperaton between
them, and beneft from the great investment potentals available in the two countries.
He also said that the forum will provide an opportunity to explore aspects of cooperaton in worthy
sectors, to exchange experiences and transfer knowledge, in many areas of common interest between
the two countries, and to facilitate the process of linking Omani and Syrian business owners, through the
bilateral sessions that will be held on its sidelines.
Al-Saqri afrmed that the Sultanate of Oman is always ready to work to facilitate all challenges that may
face the process of economic, investment and trade cooperaton between the two countries, in order to
achieve the goals aspired by the leadership of the two countries..
For his part, the Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Muhammad Samer Khalil, explained that
the economic relatons between the two countries are contnuous and long-standing, saying: “We count
on the role that the Sultanate of Oman can play, in that it is also an important regional trade center, to
re-export Syrian products to other countries.” East Africa, India and China.
He also pointed to the role of the private sector in establishing joint investment projects, and beneftng
from the incentves and facilites offered to investors in both countries.
In this regard, he pointed out that there is a legislatve investment environment in Syria, where a new
investment law was issued, which includes exemptons at the customs, tax and technical levels, and
provides many promising investment opportunites..
For his part, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Faisal
bin Abdullah Al-Rawas, stated that the Omani-Syrian Forum seeks to strengthen trade and economic
relatons between the two countries, stressing the depth of the historical relatonship between them.
He pointed out that the forum focuses on a range of economic sectors, most notably the food industries,
import and export, contractng, the clothing and coton industry, the textle and fabrics sector, tourism,
veterinary medicines, fodder, fertlizer, chemicals, and the plastcs industry.
The actvites of the Omani-Syrian Business Forum began with the establishment of two working
sessions, during which the most important incentves and facilites offered to investors in the Sultanate
of Oman and Syria, and the investment opportunites available in all economic felds in the two
countries, were reviewed..
